Matt Garrison
Managing Principal

Matt has an 18-year track record as a value investor driven by basis and cash flow fundamentals, successfully building investment strategies and platforms around strongly held convictions and macro investment ideas. Matt built the R2 office platform to capitalize on current and projected favorable supply/demand fundamentals in the Creative Office space.

Matt has been investing in real estate on his own account since 2001, when he purchased a 4-unit building on Chicago’s Northside. Matt learned the real estate business organically, investing his own capital, and has built R2 around people and a culture that share his hands-on, ownership ethos.

Matt funded many of his early real estate activities through a successful career as a residential broker. In 2006, Matt and his team sold 761 units in a year, ranking as the #1 Coldwell Banker agent worldwide, and sold over 2000 units in his 9-year run as a real estate broker. This record setting level of transactions provided deep insights into deal-making, human nature and timing.

In 2007, Matt began accumulating student housing in major Midwest college towns. Matt and his team purchased 17 properties through the economic crisis in a number of complex transactions, including foreclosures, loans, & multi-year entitlements. Matt’s flagship project in the student housing space was the entitlement and development of a 550-bed student housing project at Purdue University, in partnership with CA Ventures, and sold to American Campus Communities (NYSE:ACC).

In 2011, Matt exited student housing and purchased a small office building in Chicago’s West Loop where he began building R2’s vertically-integrated Creative Office platform. Today, R2 is over 50 employees and owns +6 million SF of commercial real estate acrss the Midwest.

Matt graduated from The University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in 1998 with a degree in English, (and gave the English Convocation address in 2015). He was named to Crain’s Chicago Business 40/40 in 2014, and is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago.

Max Meyers
Principal & Chief Investment Officer

Max oversees all investment activity for R2. He is responsible for the implementation of investment strategies, origination of new opportunities, debt and equity capitalization and structuring joint ventures. At R2, Max has led over 50 transactions valued in excess of $600M.

Max was previously a VP at Pearlmark Real Estate Partners (formerly Transwestern Investment Company) where he was responsible for originating, negotiating, and closing commercial real estate acquisitions, nationwide, on behalf of principal investment funds focused on opportunistic risk adjusted returns. Max covered all major and secondary US markets and focused primarily on Office, Retail and Industrial assets. With over 8 years of experience sourcing deals across the US, Max developed deep broker relationships and market knowledge in many of the R2CO target markets.

From 2005-2012, Max gained invaluable experience navigating the mid 2000’s bull market and subsequent economic crisis. These experiences range from completing a $100M CMBS restructuring on a corporate campus in New Jersey to sourcing a trapped value office complex in Austin that eventually leased to Apple. Locally, Max helped structure a JV with Sam Zell’s Equity Group Investments & Tier I REIT (fka Behringer-Harvard) to acquire and reposition 100 South Wacker.

From 2010 to 2012, Max began focusing on Creative Office in New York, Austin and LA where he witnessed credit tenants seeking out non-traditional space and paying rent premiums that outpaced traditional office submarkets.

In 2012, Max joined R2 to help build R2’s Creative Office platform and pursue investments in his hometown of Chicago, as well as bring an institutional mindset and discipline to the Creative Office asset class. Over the last 7 years, Max has acquired over 50 assets at R2 with institutional capital partners including Goldman Sachs, Walton Street Capital and many others, growing a platform that started with a single Creative Office asset in 2012.

Max graduated from Northwestern University, with honors, in Economics and Communication Studies. He is a native Chicagoan and active member of the Urban Land Institute.

Nate Laurell

Nate is a Principal at R2 Companies and the Founder of New Frontier Holdings, a private investment firm focused on real food, clean energy, and real assets.

Nate is the current CEO of Here Holdings (a leader in the local-food movement) and chairman of ampCNG (a renewable-energy company). In addition, he serves on the boards of Brook Park Holdings, Tailings Capital, and Acumen Fund, a patient-capital fund that invests in businesses tackling global poverty.

Nate has been an entrepreneur since forming TECHnacity (a software-development firm) while in college. He holds a BS and MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has been recognized by the Council on Global Affairs as an emerging leader and by Crain’s 40 Under 40.

Nate lives in Chicago and San Francisco with his wife, Kris, and their three nutty rescue dogs (Sinna, Logan, and Riley).

Marc Garrison
Principal & Chief Operating Officer

Marc is Principal and COO. He leads R2’s Operating Platform and Holding Company and oversees the implementation of R2’s services and investments. Marc has over 20 years of business experience in retail management, banking, business operations consulting and real estate operations.

Prior to R2, Marc founded and managed a Chicago based residential and commercial real estate management company.

Marc graduated from Marquette University with a degree in business and received an MBA with a concentration in finance and operations from the University of Notre Dame.

Gary Stoltz
Principal & Chief Design & Development Officer

Gary is a licensed Architect and Builder who has worked for distinguished practices in Chicago and New York. Past experience includes managing the design and construction of a wide range of award winning projects, including high-end corporate interiors, landmarked theaters, speculative multi-family, and custom single family homes.

Gary has received an M.Arch from Columbia University, and a BSAS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he studied architecture abroad in Versailles, France.

Matt Duhig
Principal & Director of Leasing

Matt has worked as an investor and operator of real estate assets ranging across student housing, multi-family, retail and office. At R2, Matt has personally managed and negotiated over 1M square feet of leasing for R2’s portfolio, specializing in office and retail leasing. Matt worked with Matt Garrison for five years prior to forming R2 Companies where he led development sales.

Matt graduated from Purdue University and has an MBA with a specialization in Real Estate from Roosevelt University.

Jason Trailov
Principal & Director of Asset Management

Jason has over 16 years of investment experience across a variety of sectors in the commercial real estate industry. He has asset managed several portfolios of properties with a gross investment value of $1.5 billion and has completed $725 million of acquisitions, dispositions and financings.

Jason is a Bachelor of Science graduate in Finance & Real Estate from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and the Urban Land Institute.

Matt Pistorio

Matt has +12 years experience directing the repositioning and leasing of commercial real estate assets. Most notably, Matt has worked directly with institutions and developers on large-scale projects that include the Chicago Main Post Office, Aon Center, Citadel Center, Willis Tower and Prudential Plaza.

Matt co-founded the Telos Group where he oversaw a portfolio of 25 million square feet and was a two-time recipient of the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s ‘Broker of the Year’ Award. Matt graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Zack Cupkovic
Director of Special Projects

Zack manages fundraising and marketing initiatives, and supports the acquisition & development teams. He has been involved in over $500 million of office & retail acquisitions with R2.

In 2015, Zack led R2’s Goose Island 2025 masterplan that received recognition in national publications. He has lectured on the subject broadly.

Zack is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis where he studied English Literature and Architecture.

Angela Maysonet
Office Manager

As Office Manager, Angela ensures that day-to-day operations run efficiently at R2. Angela directly supports senior leadership and is involved in various projects with R2’s asset and property management teams.

Prior to R2, Angela worked for the City of Chicago in the Mayor’s Press Office for 15 years.


Tom Selimos
Director of Property Management

Tom has over 15 years’ experience in the commercial and residential construction and property management Industry. Responsibilities have included all areas of Development / Management from design & build to tracking construction progress, budgeting and day-to-day operations.

Tom Graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Economics. Tom holds a state of Illinois Property Manager License and Illinois Real Estate Broker’s License.

Rob Gordon
Director of Finance & CFO of R2 Yield+ Fund

Rob Gordon serves as the CFO at R2 Yield+ and manages R2’s debt investments.

Previously, Rob was CFO of, a retail electricity supplier where he oversaw the financial growth of a start-up with annual sales of $140 million. Prior to, Rob was a loan officer and credit analyst for The PrivateBank.

Rob earned a BS in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Rob is a CFA® charterholder and currently enrolled as a student in the evening MBA program at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Ishan Novljakovic
Director of Field Operations

As a Project Manager for R2 Design+Build, Ishan is responsible for general management of various construction and development projects.

Ishan has over 20 years of experience in the construction industry having built residential, office, and retail.

Alex Freniere

Alex Freniere is an Associate at R2. He is responsible for evaluating real estate investment and development opportunities, due diligence, and assisting with the asset management of the existing R2 portfolio.

Prior to joining R2, Alex was an options trader for DRW Trading Group.  Alex earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

As General Counsel for R2, Brendon oversees the firm’s legal & litigation matters. Brendon earned his JD from DePaul University and BA from the University of Illinois.

Megan Coyle
Director of Design

Megan is licensed Architect and comes to R2 with 10 years of experience working on design and construction for commercial, residential and healthcare projects. Her design work has received multiple AIA awards and has been published in Dwell, Mark and Dezeen magazines.

Megan earned her Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon and a B.S. in Architecture from the University of Minnesota.

Amita Parekh
Director of Accounting

Amita Parekh has over 15 years of Accounting experience in real estate including Commercial, Shopping mall, Healthcare and RV and Manufactured home communities. Previously, Amita spent over 3 years at Equity Lifestyle Properties as a Accounting Manager. Prior to Equity Lifestyle, Amita worked at Lillibridge Healthcare Services, General Growth Properties and Prime Group Realty Trust. Amita received her Bachelors of Science in Accounting from Drake University.

Melissa has over 17 years’ experience in the Property Management Industry. Prior to R2, Melissa worked for GE Capital, Tishman Speyer, and the Lincoln Property Company.


Brad Kepple

over 17 years of Accounting experience in real estate including Commercial, Shopping mall, Healthcare and Residential.  Previous experience includes Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager and AR/AP Manager.  Experiences have included both on-site and centralized accounting.  Previously have been in positions with both large and small companies including MB Real Estate, Accesso Services, Lincoln Property and RREEF.  Received Bachelors in Accounting from Western Illinois University.

Maria Mesa
Staff Accountant

Maria Clara Mesa has over 5 years of accounting experience in commercial & residential Real Estate. Prior to R2, Maria worked for Lincoln Property Company as a Staff Accountant; her clients included Invesco, JP Morgan, UBS and Stockbridge. Before that, Maria lived in Nashville where she was a bookkeeper for Unimex Audiocar, while she pursued her CPA. Maria is fluent in Spanish and English.

Andrew Koffinas has 14 years of accounting experience, majority of it being in the Real Estate industry including RV & Manufactured Homes. Before joining R2 Companies, Andrew was at Equity Lifestyle Properties for 8 1/2 years starting off as a Staff Accountant and moving up to Sr. Corporate Accountant.

Diana Pence
Investment Accountant

As R2’s Investment Accountant, Diana’s primary focus is the integration and management of all aspects of the investor experience. Diana worked in the tax industry with a focus on high net worth individuals and corporate entities for over five years before joining the R2 team.

Diana graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Saint Xavier University and received her Master’s degree in Taxation at Benedictine University.

Jarrik Mitchell
Construction Manager - R2 Design+Build

Jarrik is a Construction Manager for R2 Design+Build with over ten years experience in construction, and construction related industries.

Prior to R2, Jarrik was a Project Manager at Bear Construction for seven years where he managed over $200MM in commercial construction projects.

Jarrik Graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Iowa State University. He also served in the Navy as a surface warfare officer for eight years and worked at the Drug Enforcement Administration as a Purchasing Agent.

Neil Griffin
Project Manager - R2 Design+Build

Prior to joining R2, Neil has worked at architecture and development firms across Chicago in the residential and commercial industries. He has assisted the design, leasing, and construction of projects ranging from a residential skyscraper to a million square foot warehouse.

Neil earned his B.Arch from the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he was highly involved with AIAS and led the university’s urban farming initiative.

Jenny Trautman

Jenny is a Development Manager for R2 Design+Build with experience in architectural design, entitlement, project management and construction management. Jenny is a LEED Neighborhood Development Accredited Professional and licensed Real Estate agent.

Prior to R2, Jenny was a Project Manager for the Catalina Island Company working on complex coastal development projects heavily focused on retail, hospitality, residential and industrial projects.

Jenny has received a B.A. in Architecture from UC Berkeley where she was a member of the Division 1 NCAA Rowing Team, and an M. Arch from the University of Southern California, where she studied architecture abroad in Paris, France.

Murphy is a Construction Manager for R2 Design+Build with over nine years experience in construction, and construction related industries.

Prior to R2, Murphy was a Project Manager at Reed Construction for two years where his last project was a $30 million, multi-phased renovation project for an anchor tenant in the Loop.  Before moving to Chicago, he sent three years working for JLL in Philadelphia as a Construction Estimator / Assistant CM and four year as a Project Manager for DBI in New York City doing insurance property loss consulting.
